Not all of us have the privilege of having comfort, security, and necessities. Many people in the world are deprived of these facilities due to poverty, illiteracy, and various other reasons. Underprivileged children are those who are bereft of the happiness that every child deserves to have. They don’t have healthy surroundings and get exposed to the harsh realities of life at a very young age. They lose the right to social, physical, and mental development. These children have to experience very bad living conditions and have to face penury and challenges in life. They lose the opportunity to grow up into an independent adult.
The focus here should be on equipping them with all the necessary tools like quality education, proper healthcare facilities, safety and security, primary skills, etc so that they can achieve personal growth.
There are a plethora of ways to help underprivileged children in the neighborhood. One should SMILE at them and try to become their friends. Spending time with them will let them open up and share their problems. Just listening to them sends a positive message of acceptance.
Due to poverty, and guardian illiteracy, a major population of underprivileged children move to ‘Child Labour’.Education is an investment. A couple of hours per week spent on teaching underprivileged children instead of Facebook, Whatsapp and other social media sites would be beneficial for these children. Teaching them basic English, Maths and other skills would help them gain respect in society. By getting educated they will be able to find work opportunities.
More than 50% of India’s children are malnourished. They have to face hunger which leads to diseases and stunted growth. Starvation can also lead to early death amongst them. If we are blessed to have a roof on our head, three meals to eat every day, we can always provide some food to the underprivileged children.
74% of children below the age of 3 months are anaemic.58% of India’s children below the age of two years are not fully vaccinated and 24% of these children do not receive any form of vaccination. There are medication schemes of the government which the parents don’t know and need to be educated about like polio, encephalitis, etc.
These are some of how we can help underprivileged children overcome the adversities of life without diminishing their dignity and helping them respectably achieve their wants.
